NUC5i7RYH M.2 Samsung 950 PRO Problem

$

I've worked for hours now trying to get my NUC to recognize the SSD in the M.2 slot.  It just won't do it, at least it won't be recognized by Windows.   I've loaded Windows 10 PRO and it won't or can't see the M.2 drive.  I can see all the drives in the BIOS (350) and I can see the drives with Samsung's Magician and Data Migration programs.  However, I cannot see the drive when the windows OS loads and booting from the drive is not possible.  I have searched this database for similar issues and found some but when I did what they suggested, my problem persisted.  I'm starting to think this NUC is not compatible with this M.2 drive despite what they say.

I'm at my wits end with this.  Anyone have this issue too?

My system:

Intel NUC5i7RYH with 16g RAM

Samsung 850 Sata SSD 2.5" drive

Samsung NVME 950 PRO SSD for M.2 slot.

Everything seems to work nicely only I can't get past this one issue.  I love the speed but need that expensive M.2 drive to be usable.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Billy

My NUC5i3RYH running Windows 7, will not start with a USB drive attached; what should I do?  I have tried a WD Passport 1TB, a Samsung 4TB, and a Samsung 5TB, directly connected and through a hub.

When will Intel Visual BIOS be updated to access the embedded SKYLAKE PTT and AES Encryption coprocessor with TPM 2.0 capabilities to allow for the Skylake NUC systems to be secured and hardened?  Is there a fix or workaround possible?  If not, I have to return NUC to Newegg before my 30 days are up.  A reply would be appreciated.

Is this a bad dream or did Intel actually release a BIOS update that kills my NUC?

Maybe I am tired and cranky and lack the competency to recover from this but the situation is this - just spent the better part of $700 or so on my NUC6i6RYH and as anyone would do (or not, but I have for the better part of 30 years of technology use) I took a look at the drivers with such a new platform mayber there are drivers worh installing - and there I see the demon bios - 33.  I thought innocently, hey, Intel probably cleaned up some stuff that you find as you start to have greateer and greater use and feedback, so I will update the bios, as I have done for 30 years and what is the worst that can happen?  I have to downgrade back as I have done from time to time in recovery - if you have ever experienced a bios upgrade interrupted for example.

Well, I install it, and poof - NUC is now a doorstop.  The m.2 channel appears to not be detected by the system anymore.  This is shockingly negligent on Intel's part to actually release this BIOS when it causes this to happen.  I have a very plain vanilla setup - 32GB of memory and the EVO 256GB m.2 ssd - that's it.  I am flaming about this because I am extremely inconvenienced by this - and I actually thought my drive was the issue, until I put it in another nuc6i5 that  hadn't updated yet and it worked fine, and to think I was blaming this on shoddy south Korean products - I felt very guilty to have ever doubted the only excellent products I have used from Samsung.

Only after my troubleshooting hellride did I come upon this beauty:

Due to the Intel® ME firmware update in BIOS version 0033, once the BIOS has been updated to this version or later, you will need to perform a BIOS Recovery to downgrade the BIOS to version 0028 or earlier. Attempting a BIOS downgrade using the F7 or iFlash methods may fail – the BIOS will remain at its current version.

Download BIOS Update [SYSKLi35.86A]

Not only have I never read documentation to a BIOS upgrade as it about as intelligible to me as reading the electrical wiring diagram for my dishwasher, but never in my wildest dreams would I think I am installing a bios where the notes say :  Only install this bios if you want to make your NUC into a doorstop.  That would have gotten my attention.

Additionally, just or the person who wrote this, their 5-hour energy must have worn off, because if you would have tried this and then done a recovery you would have experienced for yourself that the recovery does not in fact resolve the doorstop state your NUC is now in - and then Intel would have never released this bios until that was solved and I wouldn't be writing this.

I am also so animated about this mainly because I am trying to build a business around these machines as the sole hardware for the infrastructure and have talked them up significantly - so this doesn't make me look good and I hope that intel either.

1- comes out with a patch ASAP (if that is possible)

2-tells me how to resolve this without any new bios from them (and yes I have done BIOS recovery and downgraded back to 28 - doesn't exercise this demon)

3 - bellies up to the bar and replaces my nuc

Thanks

After changing some BIOS settings my NUC would not boot. I downloaded both BIOS files SY0024.BIO and SY0028.BIO.

The BIOS file SY0028.BIO was the only file on my USB memory stick.

All USB peripherals, except the memory stick, were removed.

The BIOS Security Jumper was removed.

The following appeared on the monitor:

Flashing image for Main Block firmware ... [done]

Flashing image for Graphic firmware ... [done]

Flashing image for FV Data firmware ... [done]

Flash update has completed successfully.

Recovery complete.

Changes to BIOS require a full system reset.

Power off the system and unplug the AC power cord.

Restore the BIOS Security Jumper in Normal (1-2) or Lockdown (2-3) position.

Then restore AC power and power on the system.

I did all of this and also removed the USB memory stick. I use an HDMI to DVI cable for my monitor.

The system does not boot and my monitor indicates that there is no video signal.

Where do I go from here?

I turned my replacement  NUC on this morning and it proceeded to go into a recovery bios on it's own with no input from myself. I let it finish now I have a bricked unit, it had been working fine up till then.  I have tried the removal of the battery to reset the Bios  but still no video or Bios with HDMI or Mini-DP I received this replacement on Wed January 20 it has lasted five days. After reading some of the comments in the community I am very worried indeed about reliability. I am a Pensioner on a very very low income it took Me a long time to save up for this unit I am really disappointed.

NUC5i5ryh 3d movie playback problems and 2d artifcating issues.

Hello all,

System details:

NUC515ryh

Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 120gb SSD

CORSAIR Vengeance Performance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model CMSX8GX3M2B1600C9

Windows 8.1 x64

So, I have a support ticket open (8001088641), but am throwing this out there to see if anyone else is experiencing it.

Whenever I try to playback a 3d movie, it stutters and jerks quite frequently as well as has an odd side to side black frame that pops up when the screen is changing.  All in all, it makes 3d unwatchable.  This is especially noticeable when the action picks up.  This occurs no matter what the 3d format - SBS MKV's or 3d bluray iso's.

On the desktop, or when playing back 2d movies, my screen will start flashing and tiling green and other colors.  Rebooting solves the 2d issue temporarily, until the next time I go to use the unit.  I've tried this on 2 known good 3d display setups.

Support had me run this processor test:

http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm

It failed the baseclock test, so they recommended replacing it.  I was right at 30 days, so I couldn't do it through the retailer and had to RMA to Intel.

The new unit does also fails the test and has the same 2d and 3d problems.

At this point, I began to expect a problem with the OS itself, so I installed Windows 7 x64 and the applicable drivers.  Interestingly enough, it now passes the base clock test, but still fails to play 3d properly.  I didn't test 2d, as if 3d isn't working, it's a deal breaker for me. This should be more than capable of being a HTPC, as previous generations were. I am still waiting on a reply from support, but am starting to feel that this may be a driver issue.  The only thing I haven't tried, for lack of multiple mini-hdmi cables, is a new cable.  I ordered (and likely wasted more money) one today.

I'll attach some screen shots later, perhaps, of the 2d issue.  I can't post the 3d issues, for obvious reasons.

What is the procedure to initially recognizing and then format a new internal drive installed in a NUC5PGYH?  When I check in Settings, it doesn't even show the drive.

I'm creating a follow up video to highlight some of the NUC5/6 issues discussed here - please contribute

Hi all

I used to post here on the Intel discussion boards (mostly due to issues with my NUC5i5RYK), unfortunately my account was closed due to inactivity, so I started a new one.  I created a Youtube video about a week ago with a quick into to the Skylake NUC6i5SYK and will be creating a follow up video to discuss some of the more prominent issues with the NUC6 (and NUC5 if required).

The original video is here: Intel NUC6i5SYK - YouTube (my first one, so be kind).

Anyway, if you have specific issues that you'd like me to mention then please comment here.  I've seen numerous mentions of problems with the 033 BIOS, issues with installing Windows 7 and watching 3D Blu-Rays via PowerDVD.   I am sure there are plenty more, so if you have issues that seem to be ignored by Intel (I've been down that road myself) then let me know.

Cheers

Riaan

NUC DE3815TYBE down after upgrade to BIOS 0046

I have just upgraded the BIOS to 0046 in my NUC DE3815TYBE and after reboot, the system got down.

When I push the "power on" button only the LED starts to shine but nothing runs. The same situation was when I was using the 1.5V RAM excep the 1.35 one., but now the memory is fine, I've just rebooted the system after the bios upgrade procedure was done. The keyboard/mouse and HDMI screen doesn't run, so I can't even downgrade the bios to thep revious version.

Any suggestion?

After bios update resolution on BIOS screen is much lower and lost NUC logo with F2, F7 and F10 notices

Hi here!

After NUC D54250WYK bios update from [BIOS Version 0025-WYLPT10H.86A.0025.2014.0303.1008] to [BIOS Version 0022-WYLPT10H.86A.0022.2013.1121.1757], resolution on BIOS screen is much lower and very difficult to read on this little resolution on current big resolution monitors. Another issue is that splash screen "NUC logo with F2, F7 and F10 notices" is not showing and now enter to bios is more difficult.

I can't see any screen resolution option or splash screen setting on bios configuration menu option.

Please Intel, build bios updates that solve problems not that create new ones.

Waiting for new bios version, some idea about workaround this issue with v0025?

Thx!

Is there any 2x16GB SO-DIMM 2133MHz RAM available on the market for NUC6i5SYH?

Does anyone have a NUC 6 (Skylake) which is working 100%?

I'm getting a bit worried after having such severe errors myself, and reading about others here, so I'm wondering if anyone has a NUC 6 that is fully working as intended. If you have a system running without crashes, freezes or non-working components, please share the following information:

  • Your NUC model and for how long you've had it.
  • BIOS version, and if you have any settings different from the default.
  • Memory configuration: 1 or 2 sticks, size(s), manufacturer and model number.
  • Persistent storage (hard drive, SD card etc. you're running your OS from). Manufacturer, SSD/mechanical, size and model number.
  • Attached USB devices: Which ports are you using and any relevant information about the device(s).
  • Network connection: Ethernet or Wifi.
  • Operating system: Version, method of installation (from USB stick or other?), any drivers you had to install to fix previous errors.

Thanks in advance.

NUC5i3RYK m.2 legacy boot

I have a NUC5i3RYK, build date 25JAN2015, BIOS version 353 with a Samsung MZHPV128HDGM-00000 (SM951) PCIe SSD that will not let Windows 7 install to it in legacy mode. I just get a pop-up saying "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." I have only Legacy boot enabled, UEFI disabled. I checked UEFI mode to see if Windows 7 will install, that does work and lets me partition/install whatever. What else can I check and do to get this sorted?

What version of graphics card fixed the NUC i5 HDMI Sleep issue

I read the following

NUC NUC5i5RYH HDMI Sleep Issue

But my NUC i5 either doesn't wake up from a sleep (S4/S5 disabled in BIOS) or the screen is just blank/black and I cannot see it.

I just installed the 4331 driver.

Can someone confirm which version fixes the above.

NUC6i5SYK 3D Blu ray playback problem (same as NUC5i5xx)

It is frustrating and embarrassing for me to post that the exact playback issue I had with the NUC5i5RYK exists in the new generation. I don't have incentive to repeat my problem so here's a link to the UNRESOLVED thread I created months ago. It describes exactly the current problem.

Figure this out Intel.
