Nuc6i7kyk Won't boot with #2 RAM slot used

Hi Everyone,

I'm having some trouble with my Skull Canyon  - if there is any ram installed in the #2 ram slot it won't boot. No boot screen and zero output to monitor. Its possible that it is booting and I'm not getting output to my monitor, however, I've tried letting it sit for a while and forcing a restart and nothing happened. Not sure how else I can test.

I have tried every combination of ram in either slot, and the only configuration that will work is one stick (either one) in slot #1. Both sticks in slot #2 only will not work, and either combination of sticks in both slots will not work.

The power LED lights up (solid), and the fan runs, but I get no signal out to my monitor. I've also tried holding the power butting for 3 seconds to get into the Power Button menu, but It didn't work. I've tried clearing my CMOS and updating the bios to the latest. No dice.

Before I had this issue with slot #2, I had a series of BSODs. BSODs would happen often, even under no load, eventually as regular as a few minutes after booting into windows completely idle.

Ram: 2x G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Laptop Memory Model F4-2133C15S-8GRS

HD: Crucial MX300 M.2 2280 275GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT275MX300SSD4

OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

NUC6CAYH screen turns black for a second (VGA)

Just bought a NUC6CAYH and installed Windows 10 Pro x64 a couple of days ago. A few minutes after Windows Update had installed the Intel graphics driver, the display connected through the NUC's VGA port started to turn black for a second or two every couple of minutes. During the Windows installation and before the box was connected to the Internet (and Windows was able to do updates), the problem did not exist.

To get rid of this annoying behavior, I started to look for updates and flashed the BIOS up to version 41 (from 38) and installed graphics driver 4849, which was just released a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, that did not solve the problem. I started searching this forum and found that many others are having the same problem. As outlined in other threads, this clearly is a Intel Windows driver problem. As others have tried, I installed Linux (Ubuntu 16.04.3) and I am not experiencing this annoying effect under Linux. So please fix this problem in your Windows driver - I specifically picked this box because of its VGA connector in support of my old monitor. It is shocking to me that a company like Intel is not capable to solve a driver problem that has been reported by so many so often for months.

Audio issues at 4k on NUC7I5BNH

I am having issues with some audio, particularly in games, when my TV is set to 4k@60Hz resolution.  I mentioned this in the massive flickering thread and cvare told me to break it out, even though I think this is all related.

Setup: NUC7I5BNH, Vizio m55-C2 4k TV, Audio either through TV or using ARC to Sony XT:HT1 soundbar.

Problem: When I have the resolution set to 4k@60Hz, ifI start a game in full screen mode that is at a different resolution than the desktop, I get no sound.  If Windows resolution is set to 1080p in the Intel Graphics Settings, the sound is fine (but I don't want to change settings and reboot every time I want to pay a game).  In one of the games, I can select windowed mode and the sound then works.  However, when my resolution is set to 4k, it only displays in 1/4 of the screen so there is obviously another problem there.  From looking around online, it sounds like others have experienced this before and it might be an HDMI handshake issue or some problem caused when trying to switch to a different resolution.

Games: LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens (this is the one that the audio works in windowed mode but the video is weird)

The LEGO Movie Videogame

So the symptoms are different than with the flickering issues, but it all seems related to HDMI/driver issues.  Is this a problem with the LSPCON chips in these NUCs?

Remote Keyboard Windows app not launching

Hi,

The app won't launch anymore on my computer. I tried reinstalling after an uninstall and reboot, but it just doesn't launch. I see a "cmd" window that quickly open and close. How am I suppose to scan the QR code if the app won't launch?  I've attached the SSU report.

Except for the graphics and LAN drivers, I've applied all of the Intel updates available + remote keyboard Windows app.

Not sure what else I can do at this point...

Thanks in advance for your help.

NUC6CAYH screen turns black for a second

Hi. I`m having issues with a recently buyed NUC6CAYH. The screen will randomly turn completely black for a second or two. (it happend once every 4 or 5 minutes or once every 4 to 5 seconds)

It has windows 10 Pro installed with latest bios (040) and drivers installed.

It is connected via VGA cable to a LCD display (resolution: 1440x900@60Hz).

The things i`ve tried so far:

  • lowering the display resolution to other than the native display stops the flickering or at least makes it less frequent.
  • I had keyboard, mouse and two printers connected to a back USB port through a 2.0 USB hub. removing the USB hub eliminate de flickering (or at least it has not flicker once in about an hour) [Hub works flawlessly in other PCs]
  • Connecting mouse keyboard and two USB hdds makes the flickering happen at least once every 30 minutes.

Thanks in advance and excuse my english.

NUC7i5BNH 32GB memory, very slow cold boot and post error after 57 bios update

$

Hello,

We are experiencing a problem with NUC7i5BNH running with two 16GB SO-DIMMs. After updating the bios from the original 42 to 57 the unit powers up really slow from cold state. It takes about 45s-1min to reach the Intel NUC logo page and it takes several seconds until the "F2/F7/F10" texts appear. Normally all this happens in <10 seconds pressing the power button.

A post error message "(a7) me fw downgrade request mespilock failed" is briefly displayed before the boot process is started. Warm restarts seem normal (=fast) and the memories pass Memtest normally. The unit seems to operating normally besides the very slow cold boot and the post error message. We definitely cannot deliver the unit to a customer in this condition.

We have reproduced the problem with two NUC7i5BNH units. On the second unit we did everything in a very controlled manner. The unit worked perfectly with the 42 version; all problems appeared after the update to 57. I do realise that the problem might be some incompatibility with the Corsair memories but they work individually and also pass memtest together after the slow cold boot has finished. I really hesitate to spend ~400eur just try out a second set of memories.

Things done/tried:

  • BIOS update with proper "Reset bios settings to defaults" after the update
  • Tried bios recovery with jumper and power menu methods -> no effect
  • Tried with memories individually in either slots -> worked fine without problems (fast, no post error)
  • Tried different (Kingston, Adata) smaller memories individually in the unit -> worked fine without problems (fast, no post error)

Things not tried:

  • Different 2 x 16GB modules. Unfortunately we do not have Kingston/AData 2133MHz 16GB modules available. We could get our hands on 2 x 16GB 2400MHz Adata. However the memories are really expensive to just try out. The Corsair modules themselves pass memtest and work individually in the same units. Also their specifications meet the requirements stated in the Technical Product Specification.
  • Any smaller memories in dual channel configuration. We have a chance for this on Monday. However it does not really help us to find out that 2x4 or 2x8 works.
  • Downgrading BIOS to anything earlier to 57 (see BIOS downgrade question below)

Components:

Intel NUC7i5BNH original BIOS 42 updated to 57

2 x Corsair CMSO16GX4M1A2133C15 (16GB, 2133MHz, 15-15-15-36)

No SSD installed at the moment (AData SX8000 will be installed once the memory problem is solved)

BIOS release notes state that you could downgrade from 57 -> 54: "Due to a security enhancement, it will not be possible to go to any BIOS earlier than BIOS 0054."

However the BIOS update readme states the following: "If you are trying to downgrade to a previous BIOS version and its Intel® ME Firmware version is older than that currently on the motherboard, then the downgrade is NOT supported."

The ME FW in 57 is newer than in 54 (11.8.50.3425 vs 11.6.27.3264). Is the downgrade to 54 allowed/supported or not?

Questions:

  1. What is this post error message "(a7) me fw downgrade request mespilock failed"? We have definitely not downgraded anything. Is the unit internally trying to perform some kind of revert to previous bios when the post is taking too long? Could not find any google hits on NUC with this error.
  2. Is the BIOS downgrade from 57 to any previous version allowed/supported? Since the documentation would indicate that we cannot downgrade (see above), we seem stuck with 57.
  3. Has any of the relevant BIOS settings changed between 42 to 57? These do not seem to be listed in the release notes.
  4. Are there any BIOS settings we could try to change? Eg. memory timings or the "Round trip latency optimisation".
  5. Anything else we could try?

We provide Intel NUC solutions as a business and have installed several hundred units since 2013. This is the first time we experience this kind of problem. We have also provided NUC6 and NUC7 units with 32GB memory without problems but the NUC7i5BNH+Corsair 2x16GB combo is our first.

Any help is well appreciated!

Best Regards,

NUC6i7KYK Bluetooth problems

$

Good day!

Six months ago I bought NUC6i7KYK and noticed the incorrect work of the bluetooth. At any time (this can be 10 minutes, half an hour, hour or any other), the sound may disappear or start popping, and after a few minutes it appears again. It is absolutely impossible to watch a movie normally or listen to music. During these six months I periodically checked the new drivers and installed them, but the problem was not solved. I had to disable the bluetooth in the BIOS and buy a Chinese usb-module for $4, which works perfectly. But it's not right! I always have a busy USB 3.0 port and a high-speed built-in bluetooth should work correctly, especially since this is a software problem.

I have Win10 1703 x64 and Apple AirPods. I would like to help the company's engineers solve this problem. Maybe you have instructions for this? For example, a debugging program that will write a log to determine the cause of the problem. Thank you for your attention and help!

Creators Update Fall 1709 + NUC7i7BNH = "display resolution not supported"

$

Hi,

I have been using my NUC7i7BNH for a while, running Win 10 Pro 1703 connected to reciver and TV with HDMI.

Yesterday I got a new harddrive (Samsung 960 EVO 256GB NVME) and did a clean install with a Win 10 Pro 1709 (Creators Update Fall) ISO.

After installation a few minutes went by, the screen flickers and then goes black. Try to restart but the TV just says “display resolution not supported”. Perform restore to an earlier system restore point (probably before the update/driver was installed). The display works again and everything is OK. But after a few minutes the same thing happens again. Unplug my Ethernet cable and do yet another restore. This time the machine is running considerably longer. Download the Intel drivers from my laptop and install them on the NUC from a USB-drive. When I get do the display driver (Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BN, NUC7i5BN, and NUC7i7BN Version: 15.46.05.4771 (Latest) Date: 9/11/2017 ) the same thing happens again – no display.

Then tries to connect the NUC to my PC monitor and it works perfectly. Do a few restarts, wait a while etc… Everything works. Then connect it to the TV again – no picture – “display resolution not supported”. (Note: I have tried to connect the NUC directly to the TV without passing the receiver, but it didn´t help).

Gave up and switched back to my old hard drive with 1703 and that of course worked. Is the Intel display driver not fully compatible with 1709 Creators update?

NUC6CAYH Freezing/Crashing... LAN troubles, etc

$

I picked up a NUC6CAYH with the plan of using it for Libreelec.  I realize this is not a supported OS, but there are many others using the NUC6CAY for this without issue.

I have 2 x HyperX Impact 4GB 1866MHz DDR3L CL11 SODIMM 1.35V HX318LS11IB/4 installed. (tested with memtest for 48 hours without issue.)  I have used both a Samsung 830 SSD, and an ADATA SP600

I have consistent crashing and freezing with Libreelec, that others are not experiencing.  Sometimes it runs without crashing for an hour or so, sometimes only minutes.

I have experienced freezing in the visual bios, requiring a hard reset, at least a few times, and with both 0041, and 0042 bios.

I decided to install windows 10, as a test of an "approved" OS.  Windows Setup experienced a crash during install, and after install, the Win 10 install itself experienced a BSOD.  Additionally with Win 10, I am unable to install the LAN driver, no realtek lan is recognized... nothing is shown in the device manager either (no, it is NOT disabled in the bios)

I can gather info if it would help, but I am thinking there may be something wrong with my NUC.

What needs to be done to get a replacement?

NUC5i3RYK bios setup for clean install WIN 10 on Adata M.2 ASX6000NP-128GT-C

I had Win 7 64 BIT Pro installed, I cloned that drive to my new M.2 Adata drive.

Told BIOS to boot to that drive. Works fine. Still not as fast as a 6 year old Acer REVO with M.2 drive.

Would like to know the Visual BIOS Settings to Fresh install WIN 10 on the M.2 drive.

BIOS and WIN 10 BOTH see the M.2 drive. My BIOS VER is RYBDWi35.86A.0367.2017.0929.1059.

Intel driver update says my drivers are current.

Intel says my drive is not been tested and approved. Any Help for my question?

NUC7i5BN queries

Hi,

I have a new 7i5BNH NUC kit that I plan to use for some experiments with Ubuntu. I had a couple of questions:

1) Is there anyway to wire the device for serial output ?

2) I am planning to do some power measurements on this and wanted to know if the DC input jack would be the best place for re-wiring or any other ? Are there any schematics openly available for this kit ? Also, has someone already done this for various idle and active scenarios ?

Thanks,

Darren

NUC7i3BNH HDR Graphics corruption on TV/AVR at boot, in bios, and in Windows.

$

Hello,  I have a new NUC7i3BNH that is configured as a HTPC running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (latest updates applied).  It is connected to a Yamaha RX-A770 AVR, and that is connected to a Sony x930e TV.   All connected via HDMI 2.0a/b cables, and the HDMI link from the AVR to the TV is proven via other 4K HDR assets going through it.

I have installed the latest drivers and enabled HDR in the configuration for Windows.   The TV sees the signal as 10bit yuv420 HDR.  (which I would like to actually have 444 or 422, but 420 is the only level the intel chip seems to work with)

I have a major issue at reboot -IMG_20171127_095016.jpg

The colors are all green/purple.   This happens in the BIOS,  Boot screen, and at the desktop.  UNTIL you move the mouse or click on the desktop.   This only happens once you enable HDR mode in the OS.   Once you do, any reboot after that will have this coloring issue. ... again... until you (edit:  You can just move the mouse at the login/desktop and it will clean up, no click is actually needed) click the desktop (any click right/left)  windows seems to clean up the signal at that point.

I realize these drivers are brand new, and it seems like something is getting hung up on the reboot in the HDMI stack or that level converter in the middle of things.

Firmware is all at the latest (1.72 for the HDMI firmware) current bios, and latest drivers.    This is the only real issue I have so far with this setup.  And since it's a HTPC it doesn't reboot often it doesn't crop up much, but I wanted to post this so Intel and others know this is an issue.  Not sure if its a Windows or an Intel driver issue, but it is an issue.

Boot Issue DC3217IYE - Intel ICE Canyon NUC Core i3-3217U 1.8GHz QS77 DDR3 2xHDMI / Gbit LAN / USB (Next Unit of Computing)

Hi,

I have two NUC's DC3217IYE. I think that makes them 3rd Gen.

The issue I have is from time to time the NUC's do not see the internal drives on boot and start to try to boot from the Lan.

The drives are Msata 60gb Intel's. Both NUC's are mounted upside down under office desks.

The only way I can get the drive to be 'seen' again is by opening the NUC removing and re-inserting the drives.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on, please?

I updated the bios to the latest version about a year ago. One of the NUC's I have just upgraded the mSata drive to a new 128gb crucial Msata drive but the same issue has occurred.

Thank you!
