Wake-From-Sleep Rebooting Issue is back!

$
0
0

My original NUC NUC8i7HVK was crashing and rebooting every time I attempted to wake it up. Otherwise it ran fine. Intel ended up sending me a replacement which had the .037 version BIOS. The replacement unit woke up normally until I upgraded the BIOS to .051 (latest). No other changes-just the BIOS upgrade. I did the upgrade because when the unit went to sleep, the red drive LED would remain on solid. Now after the upgrade, the LED is behaving but the same crashing-on-wakeup problem is occurring again! What is it with these flaky BIOSes???

NUC7i5BNK no video after a failed BIOS update

$

I updated the bios from Win10 (I ran the official update utility), the update failed (unfortunately I forgot the failure code) and after restart there is no video (I tried 2 monitors). I tried the method BIOS Recovery Update Instructions for Intel® NUC with the BIOS security jumper removed (since there is no video the other method is a bit difficult) several times but it didn't work. In fact, when I turn the NUC on with the jumper removed (and with a usb memory stick inserted), all the diodes on the front panel go black (I think it was not like that the first time I tried, but now it's like this); the NUC still gets hot after some time, but I have no idea whether it does anything - certainly the video didn't come back. When I put the jumper back, the diodes turn blue after I start the NUC - but that's the only output I can get.

Hi all

I would like to know which temperature values are "normal" for the different NUC models NUC8i3, NUC8i5 and NUC8i7. I would be happy if you would share your values with me. It would be great if the values in idle and load are separated.

I have a NUC8i5BEH.

ConditionTemp
Idle~35 °C
light use (browsing, text editing, music playback)up to ~55 °C
full loadup to ~82 °C

NUC8i5BEK -> fan running nonstop

Hello,

I have just bought NUC8i5BEK. Installed RAM & Disk.

Installed windows 10.

On idle state, cpu temperature about 37 degress, 0% CPU used.. and fan is still running.

It is not the highest speed, but i can hear ist very well.

I had tried to setup quite and even fanless mode in BIOS, but without success..

Can you please help?

This is kind of useless for me.

I have another (older) NUC at work, also with i5, bought half year ago.. and it is really quite.

Fan is running only on heavy load.

Thanks,

Lukas

Hello, everyone,

I have problems with Linux and I can't install Windows for the moment;

The problem is that the videos with the audio tracks in "DTS-HD MA" creating annoying pop - up from speaker (DENON AVR X2400H 5.1) or it jumping for some fractions of seconds.

Can you tell me if you're gonna run this problem with Windows? Maybe using Kodi.

Thank you

Installing ESXi on NUC8I7HNK - failing

I am trying to install ESXi 6.7 on a NUC8I7HNK -

I've tried several different BIOS versions and in both Secure boot and Non-Secure Boot.

Each time it fails after loading all of the ESXi going into the Interactive installation with the following.

On the screen

“Shutting down firmware services…..

Using “simple offset” UEFT RTS mapping policy”

The NUC is now locked up.

Would really like to get this working.

The NUC7 works fine but liked the NUC8 with the two NICs built into the motherboard.

Any ideas on what to try?

NUC7i5BNH, 4K HDR10 display problems

$

I've had problems with my TCL TV in 4K, when 4K 60Hz HDR10 is enabled(no problem using 4K 30Hz).

I tried the last three graphics drivers and including the last one, win64_25.20.100.6323 (I'm currently using this driver)

The problem is that you get a thin white flickering line at the bottom of the screen and sometimes also a strange hue on the screen almost foggy....

The problem was intermittent and present on blank screen, VLC Player Full screen and also Browser streaming. Sometime a reboot would make the problem go away but sure thing it would return. I tried different settings in the Intel 640 Graphic settings to now avail.

Today I tried installing 6323 again and at the end of each graphic driver install you get a tick box that say's "tick here if you want driver to evaluate graphic capability and enable AMBIENT Display". This is graphic driver install number XX and this time I did not Tick the box. End Result after 6 hours use.

I have NO ambient display, I also have no problems with my TV in 4K when 4K 60Hz HDR10 is enabled. I don't know of this is a magic wand but it might be worth a try if you are experiencing similar problems.

HDR10 on NUC7i5BNH

Windows 10 Home 64, current insider fast lane build 18262(same problem experienced on earlier builds)

Graphic drivers tried, win64_24.20.100.6286, win64_25.20.100.6323, win64_25.20.100.6326(currently installed)

Latest BIOS

I have a TCL 65" 4K TV capable of HDR10.

When I enable HDMI 2.0 on the TV it runs 60Hz 3840x2160 (also 4096x2160) with no problem whatsoever .

BUT when I enable HDR in Windows the screen becomes unstable, sometimes everything seems OK but then a thin white line will appear at the bottom

of the screen sometimes this white line will flicker and other times not. Ones the line appears its the to stay until I run Iris display settings(that crashes occasionally) and just apply

standard setting and the screen will go back to normal for a while.

Also the screen becomes sort of milky white'ish when using browser to stream and from what I can gather that's normal when none HDR content is displayed.

But it's that irritating white line that's the issue. I don't think it's a CABLE issue since 60Hz is working fine and I have also tried a few different HDMI2 cables.

Is this a problem with the graphics driver, win10HDR or a combination of the two? Early days issue?

I'm not a gamer so I'm quite happy to run at 60Hz 3840x2160 but I want to know why I have this problem.

Withdrawal of Express BIOS updates

intel_corp

The withdrawal of the Express BIOS updates for new versions means that there appears to be no way to remotely update system firmware on NUCs that don't support AMT (which is almost every model).

What solution does Intel have for those who need to update firmware remotely (i.e. without being physically present at the machine)?

This is a serious issue that has the potential to become an emergency if there's a sudden requirement to update firmware on Intel NUCs - for example if serious security flaws are discovered. I would appreciate a proper, thoughtful response from Intel on this issue.

New Express BIOS update not working, unhandled exception

Hi all,

just downloaded the "new" but strange  Express BIOS update for Windows for one of my NUC7i3BNK

BNKBL357.86A.0071.EB.msi

and I tried also

JYGLKCPX.86A.0046.EB.msi for a different NUC 7CJY

But it doesn't work. It doesn't even give an output, it simply closes itself after starting it. Guys please, testing before releasing isn't a bad idea!

@development team: The MSI says: "Product: ExpressBiosUpdate -- Configuration completed successfully."

But .NET Runtime states:

Application: EBU.UI.EXE.exe

Frameworkversion: v4.0.30319

Application closed due to unhandled exception

Exception: System.FormatException

   bei System.DateTimeParse.Parse(System.String, System.Globalization.DateTimeFormatInfo, System.Globalization.DateTimeStyles)

   bei ExpressBiosInstaller.MainWindow.CompareOnDeviceBios()

   bei ExpressBiosInstaller.MainWindow..ctor()

I even tried manually, extracting and installing the firmware with the DPinst. Then the device manager shows under "Firmware" BIOS0071 with a yellow exclamation mark  - but rebooting doesn't install the new BIOS.

We have UEFI / Secure Boot enabled and password set, but I guess there's something wrong inside the Express BIOS files...

Executing the .EXE itselfs gives following error:

Name of application: EBU.UI.EXE.exe, Version: 1.0.0.0, Timestamp: 0x5ba97931

Name of modul: KERNELBASE.dll, Version: 10.0.17134.407, Timestamp: 0x99042cc0

Error offset: 0x000000000003a388

NUC8i3BEH not displaying 10-bit 4:2:0 YCbCr on Sony 75XF9005

Hello,

I have a nuc8i3beh which have connected to my sony UHD TV.

The sony can display UHD HDR content up to 4:4:4.

In windows I cannot get the display output to go to UHD 60Hz 10-bit 4:2:0 YCbCr

The max it will do is 8-bit with dithering, RGB.

Some things I checked based on other topics in this forum:

  • checked for latest bios/drivers
  • tried newer intel graphcs drivers, instead of the special nuc drivers
  • running windows 10 with all updates
  • running windows 10 on 300% dpi
  • several power cycles on the TV and nuc
  • TV is running in enhanced HDMI, NUC is on the correct HDMI port which supports uhd hdr
  • windows HDR is on
  • intel graphics YCbCR is enabled
  • I am using a cable which easily can handle 18GBps (and tried different cables)

Please help me to setup the nuc so it can display according to its max specs.

Cannot install ESXi on NUC8i7BEH

Running into the same issue that some of the folks in another thread are seeing with the NUC8I7HNK (Installing ESXi on NUC8I7HNK - failing ). Getting the same error “Shutting down firmware services…..Using “simple offset” UEFT RTS mapping policy”

It seems that a BIOS upgrade fixed the same problem on the HVK model of that NUC so want to know if Intel is investigating the issue on the NUC8i7BEH and planning a BIOS update to fix this issue?

Bought the NUC, memory and drive with the intent of installing ESX as I had on my older NUC7i7BNH which worked great. Are other seeing this issue? Would like to hear from anyone at Intel if this is being looked at? Really frustrating waiting for the new NUC's to come out only to find out that ESX cannot install on it which is a pretty common use case for the NUCs.

Intel NUC7I3BNH does not accept DHCP offer during PXE boot

$

So I am a bit confused right now since I am pretty sure I asked this question yesterday but can no longer find any trace of it.... So I'm asking it again.

We recently bought a NUC7I3BNH to test out as a replacement for our current fleet of clients. During the test we unfortunately noticed that it will not PXE boot because it does not acknowledge the DHCP offer of the DHCP server. IPV4 DHCP that is. We have not tested IPV6 DHCP since that network is not set up for that. The problem is there for both UEFI and Legacy PXE boot.

It is certainly not an issue of the port the NUC is connected on, as a different PC on the same port works fine for PXE boot and there is no STP or Portfast involved. Also the DHCP request does go through to the server and the offer does get sent out, but it never gets acknowledged by the NUC for some reason. I have attached the edited down packet trace for the DHCP request/offer process which is repeated multiple times by the NUC since it apparently never ACKs any of the offers. The NUC does successfully acquire an IP adress if you install a local OS onto it and boot into that, so the device does not appear to be faulty. The bios is also at the current available latest version.

I'd be happy for any sort of advice.

NUC 8i3BEH - Cannot install Debian - "No Ethernet card detected"

Hi,

I'm trying to install Debian 9.6.0 on a new NUC 8i3BEH from a bootable USB drive containing the full (DVD) version of Debian. The Debian installer does not recognize any ethernet card or an appropriate driver.

In the corresponding installation step it simply says:

No Ethernet card was detected. If you know the name of the driver needed by your Ethernet card, you can select it from the list.

I tried choosing some Intel drivers from the list which is then displayed, e.g.

* e1000e: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver

* igb: Intel(R) Gigabit Ethernet Network Driver

However, nothing seems to happen when choosing them, the list is just being displayed again.

Except the dmesg command, which outputs this after choosing the e1000e driver:

e1000: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver - version 7.3.21-k8-NAPI

e1000: Copyright (c) 1999-2006 Intel Corporation.

These are some potentially interesting lines from the syslog:

Does this mean that any missing firmware could not be detected because the "firmware-missing" tool is not available to the installer?

My BIOS version is: BECFL357.86A.0041.2018.0719.1931

Has anyone succeeded in installing a Debian(-ish) Linux on the 8i3 NUC? Does anyone have an idea what's going wrong here? Is there "just" some driver missing or is something wrong with the Ethernet module itself?

Many thanks for your help and best regards,

Matthias

TPM problem on NUC DE3815TYBE

Hi everyone,

I use NUC DE3815TYBE; everything was OK.

Then I need to encrypt the Hard-Disk so I enable the TPM.

Since that, at start-up sometimes I have an error about the TPM.

The message is:

A configuration change was requested to enable, activate, and allow creation of an operator authentication value that permits temporary activation of the TPM

The action will turn on the computer's TPM (Trusted Platform Module).

Press F10 to to enable, activate, and allow creation of an operator authentication value that permits temporary deactivation of the TPM

Press Esc to reject this change request and continue

If I restart the NUC, the problems still occurs; If I press F10 or Cancell, the start-up continue without problem but I don't have keyboard on my device.

I try to disable the TPM but the error still occurs. It seems that if I enable the TPM, the problems begins and I can't remove it.

I think it's a BIOS problem because it occurs even without Hard-Disk, but I have tryed more BIOS version without success.

Can someone help me?

thanks

Mirco

LED issues

I've got problems with the LED's not turning off after (what I think is a) Windows 10 Pro Auto Sleep feature, its not all LED's either, Front LED 1 and 2 works as expected, but the rest (Power Button, Skull, Eyes and Front LED 3) gets stuck in the last configured state after this happens, after installing the latest BIOS, with some hassle by underclocking the RAM, an hard power reset (unplugging the power) seems to solve this issue and its also the only thing that solves it, even though it's pretty annoying when it happens. Does anyone else have this? The Windows LED configure tool think it changes the LED's but nothing happens with the mentioned LED's, changing Front LED 1 & 2 works however. Even if I try to sleep, hibernate or shut down the device completely from Windows the LED's are still on after this happens.

Also, is is normal that the chassis seems to have a small gap that makes the led create a stripe of light underneath the unit like this?

NUC7i7BNH and 4K

Hello,

i've got this device for 1 year and in the meantime i was satiffied with it, but last week i change the TV where the NUC is connected to. It's now a 4K TV (HD before) and so i incresed the resolution of the NUC... everything went okay, but now the playback of my selfmade holiday videos ísn't smooth anymore... it seems like the Graphic Card hasn't enought power to work with the 4k resolution.

When i playback the same video with the same player (MPC) in the same resolution on my main PC, there's not probleme at all.

Kind Regards
